The California Cogs band entertains at community and private events, with the goal of raising money for Rotary Foundation and community public service groups and projects.

The California Cogs band was formed in 2009 by veteran musicians who were members of San Diego area Rotary Clubs. (The logo of Rotary International is a gear wheel with cogs... get it?)



Dave Davis, John Hawkins, Joyce McHugh, Dennis Bucko, Rebecca Newlin, Scott Wood, Ron Kohl

Dave Davis - lead guitar, band leader. Dave is a real estate appraiser and consultant, has been a guitar player for decades, and has played in rock bands since 1981. Dave is a member of Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle.

John Hawkins - keyboards. A media consultant, John writes and speaks on business and technology, was a radio and TV personality and executive, and played in several bands. John is in Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo, and formerly Rotary Club of La Jolla.

Dennis Bucko - singer, rhythm guitar, harmonica. Dennis is an MD and plastic surgeon, and has performed with a variety of bands. Dennis is in Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle.

Ron Kohl - drums. Ron has played percussion for decades, and also performs in a church praise band. Ron is a member and former president of Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle.

Joyce McHugh - singer. Joyce has been lead singer in many professional bands. She is a long-time friend of Rotary.

Scott Wood - singer, bass guitar. Scott has been performing music for many years. His Rotary connection is La Jolla Golden Triangle.

Rebecca Newlin - singer. Rebecca is also an actor in a variety of productions. Her Rotary connection is Rotary Club of Camp Pendelton. Her career with United Airlines resulted in an insider book on her experiences.
